Enpark Holds Talks with US Delegation on Tie-ups in Sustainable Development

Dubai: 04 November, 2008 – The Energy and Environment Park (ENPARK), a sustainable community model for commercial and residential use and a member of TECOM Business Parks, hosted a 13-member US delegation from the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Department.
The delegation members, representing companies specializing in green building technology and products, held talks with Enpark on potential tie-ups in sustainable development.
The US companies were also keen to learn about Enpark’s ambitious objectives and its role in furthering the sustainable development objectives outlined in the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.
The delegation was received by Ali Bin Towaih, Executive Director of Enpark, who delivered a brief presentation on Enpark’s role in endorsing the adoption and implementation of a sustainable development policy in the region.
Bin Towaih said: “Sustainability directly impacts the quality of life that is facilitated by varying degrees of interaction among economic, social and environmental systems. Dubai will continue to significantly contribute to green initiatives, and build a sustainable future not just for the UAE, or the region, but the world at large.
“The US delegation members showed keen interest to enter into tie-ups with Enpark and initial discussions focused on renewable energy and technology particularly solar energy, energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure. They also acknowledged our significant role in spreading awareness on sustainable concepts in the region through pioneering more efficient uses of key resources such as energy, water, materials and land. Enpark’s initiative to actively integrate sustainable technology and design in line with the LEED Certified Green Buildings Integrated Standards was particularly commended by the delegation members.”
The US is at present one of the top trade and investment partners for the UAE.  The UAE purchased US$11.6 billion worth of US goods in 2007 and the UAE’s exports to the US has risen 38 per cent between 2000 and 2007, from US$971.7 million to US$1.339 billion.
Launched in June 2007, Enpark seeks to act as an enabling platform for sustainable business operations through the integration of eco-friendly policies, standards, education programmes and technologies, while combining environmental, social and economic elements to reflect Dubai’s benchmark for sustainable development.
