Dubai Industrial City Joins 'Clean Up the UAE' 2009 Campaign as Official Participation Site

Support Part of Industrial Destination’s Continued Commitment to Sustainable Environment

Dubai: 22 December, 2009 - Dubai Industrial City, the leading manufacturing destination and a member of TECOM Investments, today announced it had officially participated in the ‘Clean Up the UAE’ 2009 campaign and opened up its premises to a number of participants, including employees of the industrial township as well as its tenant companies.

This year’s clean-up campaign witnessed the participation of thousands of people and support from the public and private sector organizations from all over the UAE, With more than 60 locations mapped out to carry out the clean-up and a collection of more than 65.5 tons.

Launched by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) in 2002, the community-based annual environmental campaign brings together volunteers who collect tonnes of litter and wastes from ports, beaches and wadis. The campaign is part of the ‘Clean Up the World’ programme that inspires and empowers individuals and communities from all over the world to clean up, fix and take steps to preserve the environment.

Rashid Al Ansari, Vice-President of Dubai Industrial City, said: “We are dedicated to supporting the Emirates Environmental Group in its campaign. Our participation reflects our wider corporate social responsibility strategy and our commitment towards the preservation of the environment and the long-term sustainability of a green UAE.

“The initiative is also supported by TECOM Investments’ sustainable development policies spearheaded by the Sustainable Energy and Environment Division (SEED), which continues to successfully guide organisations within the group on saving costs through green measures.”

The Dubai Industrial City initiative follows last year’s participation when staff members of the destination took part in a beach clean-up drive as part of the campaign, as well as the relocation of wildlife from the industrial destination.

In 2008, Dubai Industrial City, successfully ensured the secure transfer of more than 900 endangered wildlife species including gazelles, cape hares, and various types of reptiles such as Arabian toad, leptien's dhab, Arabian sand gecko, sand lizards, as well as grey monitors from the 560 million sq ft project site to Al Marmoom conservation reserve, a dedicated Dubai Government wildlife reserve. The operation was carried out within 24 hours of capturing the wildlife species, in strict compliance with the codes of global wildlife relocation guidelines.

A comprehensive one-stop, cost-effective industrial and commercial destination, Dubai Industrial City offers complementary facilities including 2.8 million sq. feet of open storage yards, three million sq. feet of warehouses in addition to specialised showrooms, transPARK end-to-end logistics solutions, training programmes by Dubai Industrial Academy, as well as four operational office buildings.

The township features six dedicated zones for food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, as well as machinery and mechanical equipment.
