TECOM Investments Organises Summer Internship Programme for People with Special Needs

Organised As Part of Mustaqbali Programme Project

TECOM Investments, a diversified conglomerate and a member of Dubai Holding, today announced it has organised a one-month summer internship programme for people with special needs.

The programme has been initiated as a project by the Emirati graduate trainees of TECOM Investments’ ‘Mustaqbali’ initiative that seeks to encourage the recruitment and capacity building of UAE nationals.

TECOM hosted an awareness session for the employees of various departments where the special needs interns will be placed. The session also included a presentation by Alaa Al Herbawy, a specialist from Tamkeen, on the misconceptions involved in interacting with special needs people. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) additionally shared a presentation on some of the requirements that special needs individuals have.

The departments that are inducting the interns at TECOM Investments are Dubai Internet City, Dubai Knowledge Village, Dubai Studio City and Government Services Operations.

Abdullatif AlMulla, Group Chief Executive Officer of TECOM Investments, said: “It is our constant effort to reinforce TECOM’s philosophy of reaching out to the community through corporate social responsibility initiatives. We believe there should be greater engagement between all sections of the community and our organisation stands to benefit from the talent of special needs people who are important contributors to the society.”

Maitha Al Suwaidi, a trainee from the Mustaqbali programme, said: “The initiative will allow us to work on a CSR initiative to better serve the organisation and the larger community. It will also give us an opportunity to put our training to practice in executing a project for special needs people.”

TECOM Investments has implemented several Emiratisation initiatives such as ‘Career House’ - a one-day recruitment event for qualified UAE nationals keen to chart their future career at any of its 11 business parks operating in key industry cluster groups, ‘Fursati’ - a similar concept targeting high school certificate holders and diploma graduates, and the ‘Reyadati’ progarmme for postgraduates.

The internship programme is supported by KHDA, Tamkeen and Grand Midwest Group of Hotel Apartments.
